Contact coaches attending your tournaments

Some tournaments attract college coaches as a way to attract the best competition.

For example, a few SASA teams recently attended the Lou Fusz Winter College Spotlight tournament in St. Louis.  That tournament claimed to attract over 100 college coaches.  By navigating to the tournament website at https://www.loufuszathletic.com/soccer/winter-college-showcase/ and clicking on Coaches link on the left hand side, you can see exactly which coach from which school was attending the tournament.

But don’t assume these coaches will watch your game and notice you. You need to invite the coaches to watch you play.  How do you do that?  Here are the steps:

  1. Get the name of the coaches attending
  2. Go to the school’s athletics website
  3. Look up the email address for the coach.  Typically you will find the coach’s email on the coach’s biography page or on an Athletic Staff directory page.
  4. Email the coach, inviting them to watch you play.

In the email to the coach be sure to include:

  • Who - give them your jersey number and the position(s) you typically play.
  • When - give them your game schedule.
  • Where - don’t forget the field number for each game!
  • Why - include a couple statements about your game.  You score goals.  Your defense has contributed to shutouts.  You’re fast.  You rarely turn the ball over.  You’re a passer and a playmaker.
