Beginning in Fall 2026, the recommended age group cutoff will shift from the current birth year system to a grade year system, aligning with the school calendar (September 1 – August 31). This is a U.S. Soccer decision—not a SASA-specific one—that clubs are aligning with and is intended to better support soccer participation with school grade levels, creating a more cohesive and inclusive experience for players.

Effective Date: We expect that Fall 2026 is when the change goes into effect (no changes for the Fall 2025/Spring 2026 season)

New Age Grouping: Based on school grade year (September 1 – August 31)

Transition Period: No immediate changes for the 2025/2026 season

SASA’s Plan: SASA will continue using the birth year system through the 2025/2026 season. The shift to grade year grouping will take effect starting in Fall 2026, following national guidance.
