McHatton comes to UIS as a Springfield native and a member of the Springfield Area Soccer Association (SASA).  He won three letters from Springfield High School, was named honorable mention All-Central State Eight Conference, and as a senior helped lead his team a sectional championship. Alex was also academic All-CS8 three times.
 
McHatton is the latest recipient of the SASA Scholarship. The support and generosity of the Springfield Area Soccer Association is greatly appreciated by the men's soccer program and the entire UIS Athletic Department.
 
Coach Miech's comments on McHatton: Alex is the type of player that can play in a few different attacking positions. We will look for him to add to our overall soccer intelligence as he reads the game well. He can play in the middle because of his creativity and footwork, or he can play on the outside because of his speed and endurance.
